The Zinfandel grapes for this blend were harvested from a hillside vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. It is overlooked by the old Olive Hill Cemetery, which insures that many wonderful souls are watching over this vineyard. The Syrah came from a small vineyard in Dry Creek while the Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested from vines on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mts. This melding of grapes from low to high elevation gives the wine fruit as well as depth.
All vineyards were harvested & fermented separately during the month of October. They were kept separate & given oak regimes to compliment each variety. The final blend was assembled to bring rich fruit forward while building a length & finish to fill the mouth with a never-ending cascade of flavors and textures.
Rich with fruit & robust in flavor this is a bear of a wine. It hibernates in the bottle & comes roaring out when the cork is pulled. The fruit from the Zinfandel is berries, plum & dark cherry. The Syrah brings in a “meatiness ‘, while the Cabernet Sauvignon flexes its muscle with firm tannins, cassis & chocolate covered cherries.
